French toast is such a classic breakfast and a go-to order for me when I go out for brunch! This is a bit more of an everyday version of a classic that is quick, easy, and so delicious! As someone who is always on the go, I absolutely love quick and simple recipes because who has time in the mornings?! While traditional french toast is on brioche bread, I love using sourdough! Sourdough is one of my favorite breads because it’s so great for your gut health and adds a nice balance to the sweet flavor. I personally think that a good quality bread is the key to a delicious french toast because it keeps moist and has a better texture! Some of my favorite sourdough is from local bakeries, Whole Foods, or Trader Joes. A good tip is to always make sure that it includes the ‘sourdough starter’ as an ingredient. Also, I love to add berries to this french toast because it really just adds a touch of sweetness and freshness! French toast is so customizable thing that you can really add any of your favorite toppings too!
Ingredients
2 slices sourdough bread
1 egg and 1 egg white
2-3 tbsp almond milk
1 tsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
dash of cinnamon
Mix the eggs, almond milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon till well combined. Place the bread in the mixture and make sure that both sides are coated well! Heat a pan with coconut oil and place the French toast. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side on medium heat. Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
